New York Permit Test Practice
The New York State DMV permit test is short, just 20 multiple-choice questions, but road signs carry extra weight: you must pass the sign questions as well as the test overall, so a weak spot on signs can sink an otherwise good score. You can apply for a learner permit at 16.
New York is also one of the few states with an online permit test. If you complete the DMV's pre-screening and qualify, you can take it at home on a webcam-equipped computer or tablet (a parent or guardian supervises if you're under 18), then visit a DMV office to finish. After that, teens need 50 hours of supervised driving, 15 after sunset, plus the 5-hour pre-licensing course before the road test. Practice free on DMV Permit Prep, signs included.
