Montana Permit Test Practice

Montana lets teens start younger than almost anywhere else. Through a state-approved traffic education program, a 14½-year-old can get a learner license, and many students take the knowledge test through their traffic ed course rather than at the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD), part of the Montana Department of Justice. Without traffic ed, the age is 16.

The knowledge test is commonly reported as 33 questions with 27 correct needed to pass. It covers signs, right-of-way, impaired driving and rural hazards like gravel roads, open range livestock and wildlife. After the permit, teens log 50 hours (10 at night) over at least 6 months.
