Florida Permit Test Practice

Florida calls its permit a learner's license, and you can get one at 15 from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) or a county tax collector office. The Class E knowledge exam has 50 questions on traffic laws and road signs, and you need 40 correct (80%).

Two recent changes matter. Since August 1, 2025, applicants under 18 must take the new 6-hour Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS) course instead of the old 4-hour TLSAE class. And since February 6, 2026, all Florida knowledge and driving exams are given in English only. Once licensed, you drive in daylight only for the first three months, then until 10 p.m., and hold the learner's license for 12 months with 50 practice hours. Practicing free on DMV Permit Prep is a good way to prepare for the 50-question exam.
