Connecticut Permit Test Practice
Connecticut makes new drivers wait until 16 for a learner's permit, later than most states. The Connecticut DMV gives a 25-question knowledge test based on the Connecticut Driver's Manual, and you need 20 correct to pass. Testing is in person and by appointment, and failing means waiting seven days and paying the testing fee again.
Since January 1, 2026, every learner's permit applicant must also finish Connecticut's free online Work Zone Safety Course. Teens then hold the permit for 180 days, or 120 days if they train through a commercial driving school or high school program. They also complete the 8-hour Safe Driving Practices course before the road test. A parent or guardian takes a 2-hour safe-driving class too. Practicing free on DMV Permit Prep helps you hit 20 out of 25 the first time.
